Assignment 19- Ian Schaeffer

My dad is a pretty serious guy, but occasionally he can joke around. Apparently that's what happened when he was trying to motivate Ben and me before our Y League soccer games with a classic Conan saying. The timeless "crush your enemies. see them driven before you. hear the lamentations of the women" quote was far from appropriate for five year olds, but it made us laugh, and it certainly amused our dad to see us laugh. No, my dad is not a sexist or a jerk, but he definitely enjoyed messing with his kids. As my dad continued to say this before games it kind of stuck, so although I don't sit before lacrosse games manically whispering these words to myself over and over again, my dad will jokingly lean over and say it sometimes. Now that I have seen the movie and can laugh at Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie, I've gained more appreciation for my dad's humor. and the saying has stuck. It's not exactly advice and hardly constructive, but it randomly comes to mind and lightens my mood before games, so I think it's important to hold on to. (Part of the message isn't too bad either)
