Assignment 3 - Daniel Brewer

When talking about good vs. evil, it all depends on the perspective of who's telling the story.  There are always two sides to every story, and many people will back each of them up.  Abortion, slavery, religion - all of these issues have had people on both sides of the matter fighting for what they believed was right, and in some cases, these issues have caused wars between factions.

It isn't always good vs evil, there can be some instances of gray and gray morality, where neither side is 100% good nor bad.  In some cases there may be more than two sides fighting, such as in the Irish confederate wars: there were the Irish Confederates, the Parliamentarians, and the English/Scottish Royalists, all fighting against each other for roughly 11 years over who would control Ireland during the 1640’s and early 1650’s.  Each side thought both of the others were wrong, but in 1648 the Irish Catholic Confederation allied with the English and Scottish Royalists, and defeated the Parliamentarians. In these cases, there may be a reason that two parties can compromise and team up to defeat the third faction, a common enemy of both allied parties.

There may not always be a clear cut path to good or evil.  In some cases the line between the two can blur heavily.  In most cases, people are innately good. People want to be fair and honest and treat others as they would want to be treated.  Leah Kleppinger found the wallet and gave it back, when she could have taken the money for herself.  I think most people would give the wallet back and do the right thing, but I’m sure there are people out there who would keep the wallet and take the money for themselves.

In the world of Star Wars, the Rebels and Luke Skywalker thought they were the good guys, and that the Empire was evil. However, Darth Vader and the Empire thought they were doing the right thing. It’s all a matter of perspective
