Assignment 7-Sara Ueland

September 25th, 1493 Columbus made his second voyage to the Americas with 17 ships.  This was one of Columbus’ 4 voyages that led to his discovery of the Americas and the home we call the United States today. The positive and negative effects of this event are still currently discussed and make Columbus Day a controversial holiday. Columbus brought civilization and the domestication of the Americas. In opposition, he contributed to destruction of millions of Native American’s culture and societies. Whether one sees this event as good or bad is solely up to interpretation.
By creating a large sphere of influence, Columbus attracted a large number of admirers and also opponents.

Influencing our nation as a hole, Columbus sparked the development of the Americas and the cultivation of the United States known today. With his lasting impact on the development of technology, Columbus brought pieces of Europe to America. Along with these advancements, he also brought disease and death. The question of Columbus’ influence as positive or negative continues to stimulate brains today.
