My Thanksgiving looks like another average do-nothing day at
home. My family does not throw a feast or invite people over. In fact, they
just leave me by myself. I sit in my room and try to forget that millions of
people chowing on turkey, potatoes, and casseroles with their family. My
tradition is sleeping or sitting until Black Friday deals open up (this year I
bought 1,800 index cards for $4 at Wal-Mart).
I do enjoy the holiday, although I used to absolutely
despise it. I was envious of how people actually had amazing food while I had
instant ramen or whatever my mom cooked. Eventually I learned to love having
three days off on top of the weekend. Five days of doing nothing. Although this
year I squandered my break, spending much of the time working on projects and
all for the end of the semester.
This year has been exceptional. For the first time, I went
to a small gathering, although it was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We ate
turkey at this party, as in ground turkey tacos that were too dry and salty.
Although it was meager, I enjoyed it.
