Assignment 14- Kalin Combs

Assignment 14:
My Thanksgiving is basically the stereotypical white family Thanksgiving that inspired so many Twitter memes this past month. Each year I visit with my fairly redneck family members on my dad's side at my Aunt Michelle's ("Aunt Shell's") house in Northern Kentucky or my grandma's ("Gan's") house in Hazard, Kentucky. When we sit down to eat, we start the meal with a prayer. Then the older family members enjoy judging everyone else's life choices and offering unsolicited relationship advice. Politics comes up inevitably, and me and my cousin Erica end up being the only ones defending our liberal beliefs at a table of conservatives. It usually ends with someone telling me I'm "not really a Christian" or I'll "grow out of it." Each person brings at least one dish, and we all eat way too much. A lot of people in my family love to cook, so the food is always really good. We eat at around 2:30, and we get hungry again by about 6, so my dad makes everyone "leftover sandwiches." Despite all the tension that can arise from being around my family for too long, I really enjoy their company. My favorite cousin lives in Tennessee, so I don't see her very often. My grandparents live about 2 hours away, but my grandma hates driving and my grandpa is too old, so they don't get out much either. I've had quite a few memorable Thanksgivings. About 5 years ago, everyone ended up with food poisoning somehow. There were 15 of us staying in my grandparents' 3 bedroom ranch, so you can probably imagine what a disaster that was, but I don't want to go into detail considering it lowkey scarred me for life.
